GUJRAT, Oct 23: Civil Lines police have registered a fraud case against a cashier of the National Bank of Pakistan’s main branch.
Reports said Qamar Zaman, a resident of Wazirabad, did not deposit Rs555,000 with the exchequer which he received from electricity consumers.
However, the accused used to stamp the receipts of the people.
A few days ago, some people lodged complaints with Wapda and the bank manager stating that despite paying the bill, they received the new bill with double entry of the last month’s amount. During a probe, the cashier was found guilty while he managed his escape.
Police have registered a fraud case against him on the written complaint of NBP operational manager Akhtar Husain and started investigations. However, no arrest was made.
Bank’s regional manager Chaudhry Shahid Farooq told this correspondent that the cashier had been dismissed from service with immediate effect.
The bank did not return the embezzled amount to power consumers so far and they had to pay the double bill to avert disconnection.
