Security beefed up in Naudero

LARKANA, Oct 23: Security in and around the residence of former prime minister, Ms Benazir Bhutto, in Naudero, has been beefed up with a large number of Ms Bhutto’s own men and heavy police deployment.

Police have sealed the road leading to the residence as a security measure. They are not allowing anybody to use this route much to the inconvenience of people living in the adjoining villages.

Local leaders of Pakistan People’s Party and the people responsible for security arrangements of the former Prime Minister House were tight-lipped about the schedule of Ms Bhutto’s arrival in Larkana.

However, sources close to the matter said that she was expected to visit her hometown within a couple of days and stay there for two days.

Contingents of women police have also been deployed around the residence in Naudero and Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto while media teams have started arriving to cover her stay in Larkana.

The sources said that special passes would be issued to media persons and the people who desired to call on Ms Bhutto and their lists had been finalised.

Our Nawabshah correspondent adds: A meeting to review security and other arrangements for the expected visit of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto to the district was held at the Darbar Hall here on Tuesday.

Zila Nazim Faryal Talpur (sister of Asif Ali Zardari) chaired the meeting while acting district president PPP Ghulam Qadir Chandio, DCO Abdul Razzaq Qureshi, DPO Dr Ghulam Sarwar Jamali, Medical Superintendent Nawabshah Medical College Hospital Prof Gulshan Ali Memon, District Officer Forests Tariq Irfan, Taluka Municipal Officer Nawaz Domki and officials of Hesco and Rangers attended the meeting.

A list of more than 150 trustworthy police officials was submitted to DPO for deployment at Zardari House and other places during Ms Benazir’s visit.

Zila nazim directed the Medical Superintendent Nawabshah Medical College Hospital to keep the doctors and paramedics alert and vigilant. District officer forest was also directed to clear all the bushes on the roadside at Sakrand and Qazi Ahmed roads up to Zardari House.

Taluka municipal officer was asked to remove garbage dumps from different parts of city and give city a clean look.

It was also decided that the Indus Rangers would also patrol in different parts of city.
