KARACHI, March 22: The chairman, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani, has rejected further amendments to the 1973 Constitution.

Speaking at a seminar on “1973 Constitution: A Reflection of Ideology of Pakistan”, he alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched for making the document polluted and to defame personalities, like Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Mohammad Iqbal.

He criticized the working of NGOs and alleged that they were acting upon the agenda of anti-Muslim forces, including the USA and the UK to harm the Constitution.

The JI deputy chief Prof Ghafoor Ahmed said the Constitution, which was approved unanimously by all the political and religious parties, was now facing a number of challenges.

Raza Rabbani, acting general secretary of the PPP, criticized the government for its alleged projection of “test tube political parties” and said the methods of the establishment would prove harmful for the federation.

He viewed that the 1973 Constitution was the document on which all the political and religious parties were united.

He refused to accept the outcome of any referendum by the government and termed the move a “joke with the Constitution”.

Chairman Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneebur Rehman, general secretary Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan Shah Fareedul Haq and former vice-chancellor of Karachi University Dr Manzoor Ahmed also spoke.—PPI
