LAC board of governors still not finalised

LAHORE, Oct 17: The board of governors for the Lahore Arts Council (LAC) for 2007-2010 has yet to be finalised though the pervious board’s three years tenure has ended on May 30, sources in the council told Dawn on Wednesday.

Sources said nominees for the board had sent to Chief Minister’s Secretariat for approval.

Some of the nominees, sent for the approval of the chief minister, leaked to the media are: Javed Ahmed Qureshi, former chief secretary and pervious LAC board of governors’ chairman; AK Sher Dil, former chief secretary; Samina Ahmed, artist; Samiur Rehman, former board of governors’ member; and Shujat Hashmi, television actor.

The pervious board of governors included: Javed Ahmed Qureshi, Rahat Naveed Masood, Amna Ulfat, Robina Qureshi, Khalid Rehman, Khalid Ghayas, Samiur Rehman, Yousaf Salahuddin, Hamid Ali Khan, Munir Niazi and Usman Pirzada.

Artistes criticised the government for delaying the formation of board of governors. They demanded the government formed the board. Culture Secretary Ashfaq Gondal told Dawn the board would be announced in next few days. — Shoaib Ahmed
