PESHAWAR, March 21: Keeping in view the current terrorist activities in the country and sensitivity during the month of Muharram, the Capital City Police have chalked out a comprehensive plan to maintain law and order in the city.

Police sources told Dawn that road-blockades would be set up at sensitive localities to cordon off the city so as to block the way of miscreants during the 9th and 10th of Muharram. “In case of emergency, the help of Frontier Corps and army will be sought to cope with the situation,” they said.

They added that the Capital City Police, with the help of Afghan Commissionerate, would also restrict the movement of Afghan refugees to their camps. All the public transports would be checked for that purpose, they said.

All the processions of Ziljana would be covered by deploying sufficient strength of police, they said, and added mosques en route would also be covered to avoid any untoward incident. Meeting of other communities would also be covered to avoid conflicts, they maintained.

They further said extra mobiles had been detailed for the prevention of crimes at the vulnerable points to check the activities of saboteurs and criminals. Armed personnel carriers (APCs) would also be stationed at the sensitive places.

Special tasks have been assigned to all the station house officers (SHOs) and sub-divisional police officers (SPDOs) to conduct regular and surprise checks on hotels and inns in their respective jurisdictions.

They told Dawn that the director-general of health services had been requested to earmark one ward each in Lady Reading Hospital and Khyber Teaching Hospital in case of emergency.

He had also been asked to provide ambulances duly equipped with First-aid items and medicines with doctors to assist the police force in case of emergency.
