Case against seven nurses for staging rally

BAHAWALPUR, Oct 11: The Cantonment police on Thursday registered a case against seven nurses of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH), who along with others observed a strike and staged a protest rally here on Tuesday.

The case was registered on a complaint filed by BVH Medical Superintendent (MS) Faiz Ali Jaskani who alleged Nasreen, Sajida Parveen, Nasreen Sundar, Angelina Firdaus, Farzana Sadiq, Samina Dutt and Ambreen instigated other nurses to observe the strike and take out the rally.

When contacted, the MS was not available for comment. Deputy MS Dr Azizur Rahman confirmed that a complaint to this effect was sent to the police. However, the police have not so far arrested any of the nurses named in the FIR.

SENTENCED: Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Muhammed Akram Khan on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment on two counts for murdering a police constable.

The judge also fined Mujahid Rs200,000, which will be paid to the victim’s family.

According to the prosecution, a police party went to arrest Mujahid but he resisted and a policeman, Zahid Iqbal, was killed in the ensuing shootout in Mailiwali Gali near Satellite Town in 2006.—Correspondent
