HYDERABAD, Oct 8: The district government has requested the Sindh government to appoint 1,900 more teachers in government schools across the district to overcome the problem of teachers’ shortage and help raise the standard of education.

District Coordination Officer Aftab Ahmed Khatri told a recently held meeting at his office the other day that the district government had submitted an SNE to the Sindh government requesting it to fill much-needed posts in all the schools and help the district bring standard of education in government schools at par with that of private schools.

The district government had formulated an education plan, which aimed at making enrolment hundred per cent, increasing adult literacy rate and having qualitative education with technical support from the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and participation of community and stakeholders.

An adult literacy programme had already been launched under the plan 18 months ago with the establishment of 600 adult literacy centres throughout the district, he said.

The plan to improve primary education had also already been launched on Aug 4, the official said and added that in addition to engaging the community, teachers would be made responsible for increasing enrolment in their schools.

Under the Primary Education Plan, a survey is being conducted by the NCHD in 15 union councils of the district.—APP
