SIALKOT, Oct 8: The District Police Officer (DPO) on Monday visited various Gujranwala Electric Supply Company (Gepco) grid stations in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur and inspected security arrangements after a Rs3 million dacoity at the Sambrial grid station some three days ago.
Later, DPO Muhammad Ameen told reporters that security arrangements at almost all Gepco installations were found shaky, as private security guards and Gepco officials deputed at the grid stations could not give plausible answers to various queries pertaining to their safety.
The DPO said the private security guards deputed at these installations had no training of using the weapons they were equipped with while majority of them were absolutely ignorant of the basics of security know-how.
The DPO said these private security guards were totally unable to combat with outlaws equipped with sophisticated weaponry and that was why robberies and dacoities at Gepco installations had successfully been executed.
The DPO said overall security system at Gepco installations was also not foolproof and Gepco officials have been advised to adopt advanced security systems at all their installations to avoid any untoward incident in future.
A gang consisting of 20 dacoits had looted seven transformers, electric cables and other appliances worth of Rs3 million from Gepco office in Bhopalwala and grid station in Sambrial three days ago. They loaded the looted articles on trucks they had brought with them and fled. Several incidents in identical fashion had taken place at other Gepco installations during the past two months and the local police were still clueless. — Correspondent
