LAYYAH, Oct 6: The district and sessions judge on Friday ordered registration of a case against a moneylender under the Private Moneylenders Act.

Ramzan of Chak 149C-TDA, one of the victims of private money lending, filed a petition with the court, pleading that he got a Rs8,000 loan from Muhammad Husain alias Jumma Khan after giving him a blank cheque and pronote as surety bond. He said he paid a Rs75,000 interest on the loan, which was still outstanding.

He said Jumma Khan blackmailed him because he had his blank pronote and cheque and that he also took away his buffaloes, sheep and goats. Ramzan said Jumma Khan caused his economic collapse and now his children were living on Zakat. On this, the judge told Kot Sultan police to register a case against Jumma Khan under the Private Moneylenders Act.

Syed Naeem Shah, counsel for the petitioner, said this would be the first case registered by police under the Private Moneylenders Act in Punjab.—Correspondent
