BAHAWALPUR, Oct 4: The police faced a tough day out in two areas of Bahawalpur as an SHO was injured by robbers and a raiding team was made to flee as neighbours of an alleged thief it targeted turned the tables on the officials on Thursday.
Nauman Habib, the SHO of the Lower Mall police station (Lahore), suffered injuries in firing by two robbers at Islami Colony. The SHO, along with a Lahore police team, raided a house to arrest Azam and Bilal, wanted in a million-rupee Nawankot jewellery heist, in Lahore. The gangsters opened fire on the raiders as a result of which the SHO suffered injuries.
The police, however, arrested three people, including a PCO owner, for providing shelter to the two. The injured SHO was admitted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital from where, it is learnt, he disappeared along with the medical chart of the ward.
City division SP Rana Ahmed Hassan said the SHO was admitted to Surgimed in Lahore. He said Nauman was shifted from BVH to Lahore officially, rejecting the claim that he disappeared from the BHV with medical record.
In another raid at a house in Shahdara Colony here, a Serai Alamgir police team stripped a suspect and humiliated the female members of the family. A number of residents blocked the way of the police, beat them up and made them flee.
The police were accompanied by complainants Manzoor Ahmad and Ashiq who alleged that Hanif had stolen their Rs700,000 in cash.
On the complaint of Hanif, the Civil Lines police registered a case and a cross case was registered against Hanif on the complaint of the Serai Alamgir police.
