LAYYAH, Oct 4: Relatives of a three-year-old boy, who was electrocuted here on Thursday, blocked Eidgah Road in protest against Wapda authorities.
Reports said Muhammad Irfan touched a Wapda pole and died on the spot. Irfan’s father Muhammad Aslam had also lost his life after touching the same pole last year.
After the incident, Irfan’s relatives along with residents placed the body at Eidgah Chowk and blocked the road. The protestors chanted slogans against the Layyah circle of Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) and demanded registration of a murder case against the authorities concerned.
After the two-hour protest, Mepco Layyah SDO Anwar Ahmed Khan and line superintendent Muhammad Khalid reached the spot and assured the protestors of immediate removal of the pole. After the assurance, the protestors dispersed peacefully.
Meanwhile, councillor Muhammad Ishaq told Dawn that residents of the area had time and again lodged complaints with Mepco office about the electrified pole but no action was taken.
