LAKKI MARWAT, Oct 3: The National Commission for Human Development on Wednesday organised a ceremony in recognition of the services of volunteers during the donation collection campaign for flood victims.

The NCHD had recently launched a donation collection drive and set up camps in Lakki city, Naurang Darra Pezu and other localities of the district for the flood affected people of Balochistan.

District Nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan was chief guest at the ceremony. It was attended among others by DCO Amer Latif, ACO Syed Khalid Israr Shah, NCHD district general manager Aamir Khan, district programme manager (education) Aamir Mohammad Khattak, district programme manager (VCD) Khan Ghalib and Awrat Foundation district coordinator Izzat Khan Marwat.

The district nazim lauded the NCHD for its services in education and health sectors.

“Due to lack of proper planning every year a huge amount of floodwaters goes waste as it falls into Indus,” he said and called upon the federal government to chalk out a comprehensive strategy for the prevention of floods in future.

“He said the construction of dykes and small dams could help store the floodwater and use it for irrigation and other purposes. Such projects could also avert large-scale losses of life and property,” Mr Saifullah said.

He said the federal government had been requested to provide special funds for the construction of small dams and dykes for which the district government had already identified the sites.
