KARACHI, Sept 30: Police released on Sunday about a dozen protesters who were arrested while chanting slogans in front of the Election Commission here against the approval of President Musharraf’s candidature for re-election.

Police said all 11 activists from the People’s Movement for Justice — a common platform of different social organizations —were released on their personal guarantees.

“The activists, who were booked under Sections 147, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code for rioting by Preedy police, were actually in the custody of Artillery Maidan police,” said an official. He said Arif Khan, lawyer of the arrested persons, submitted guarantees to get them released.—Staff Reporter
