200 mill workers arrested

SUKKUR, March 18: At least 200 workers of the Pak-Saudi Fertilizer Factory including the chairman, CBA, Pak-Saudi Employees Union, Amin Soomro, were booked under various charges by the Daharki police on Monday.

However, they were arrested mainly for creating a law and order situation in the factory premises and damaging the factory property.

Cases have been registered on the complaint of the senior management of the FFC who had purchased the factory through the Privatization Commission some 15 days back.

According to the management, factory workers, who had been protesting against the sale of the factory since at least a month, broke the gates, set it on fire and threw it in the Masso Wah canal.

The protesting workers did not allow senior officials of the management to enter the factory, while Amin Soomro claimed that we had removed only the gates and cabins which had been constructed by the Rangers on the orders of factory officials.

He said we were protesting against the privatization of the factory, which was earning Rs2 billion annually, had been sold to the FSC at throwaway prices, which was already a defaulter of many banks.

IRRIGATION: The chief engineer, Irrigation, Sukkur Barrage, announced that the right bank canals of the barrage viz the Dadu and N.W. canals system would remain closed from April 1 to 30 for annual inspection and maintenance work.
