LAHORE, March 18: President General Pervez Musharraf has called a meeting of the provincial governors to discuss the law and order situation in the aftermath of a terrorist attack on a church in Islamabad, Punjab Governor Lt-Gen Khalid Maqbool (retired) told reporters here on Monday.

He did not say when the meeting would be held. He said he had also reviewed Punjab’s strategy to check and control terrorism,” he said.

Expressing grief over the attack, he said the incident could only have a damage Pakistan’s image. “The attack is probably a reaction to the government’s drive against terrorists and terrorism,” he said. “We are considering the possibility of the attack being a reaction to the killings of known terrorists in Vehari and Bahawalpur, the crackdown on militant organizations, and the involvement of those defeated in Afghanistan,” he said.

The governor said the government had made all necessary arrangements to ensure that no untoward incident took place during Muharram.
