SAHIWAL, Sept 23: The Chichawatni police on Sunday claimed they had arrested another accused involved in the bomb blast on Feb 24.
Police said that the arrested accused, Muhammad Hussain, was a close associate of commander Muhammad Ashraf, who is still at large. While accused, Qari Ahmed Yar Hanfi and Tahir Gujjar, said to be activists of the Al-Hilal Trust, a sister organization of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, are yet to be arrested as well.
A special anti-terrorism court, Multan, had already consigned the two other accused, Asif and Siddique Baba, to the Sahiwal central jail on a 14-day judicial remand.
Both the accused denied their involvement in the Chichawatni bomb blast.
STABBED TO DEATH: A shopkeeper was knifed to death on resistance during a dacoity in a house at Bairiwala Chowk at the time of sehri.
Reports said that three bandits entered Liaquat’s house, held the inmates hostage and collected jewellery. On offering resistance, the intruders stabbed to death Liaquat Ali and escaped with the booty.
City police have registered a case against dacoits-cum-killers.
HOUSE LOOTED: Seven armed bandits injured three family members and disappeared after plundering cash and valuables worth Rs240,000 from a house in Chak 2/10-L on Saturday night.
Reports said that gangsters entered Nazir Ahmed’s house, held the family hostage and started collecting cash and valuables. For putting up resistance, they opened fire which resulted in injuries to Nazir, his son Saeed Ahmed and grandson Zafar Iqbal. They were admitted to the DHQ Hospital where the condition of Nazir was said to be critical.
Harappa police have registered a case under section 459 PPC.
