VEHARI, Sept 22: Police have recovered a doctor who had allegedly been kidnapped for Rs8 million ransom three days back from Thingi Colony, arresting two of his eight abductors.

DPO Tassadaq Hayat told journalists on Saturday that on Sept 20, eight people, two of them in police uniform, kidnapped Dr Naeem, a resident of Muslim Town, when he was returning home by a bus after closing his clinic in Thingi Colony.

The DPO said when the bus, the doctor was travelling by, reached near Garaha More stop, the outlaws, four of them present in the bus and others following it in a car, halted the vehicle.

The armed outlaws forced the doctor to accompany them to a place in Gaggo area in Burewala tehsil, he added.

They contacted the doctor’s father, Abdul Rehman, by phone and demanded Rs8 million as ransom for his release, the DPO said.

Rehman informed the police of the situation, which traced the kidnappers’ hideout with the help of the mobile phone company whose sims were being used by the outlaws, he added.

He said a seven-member police team, headed by a DSP, conducted the operation, arresting two of the accused and recovering weapons from them. The accused were identified as Tanveer, son of a retired ASI and Shahid, a resident of Burewala.

The DPO said six other outlaws involved in the kidnapping were still at large. — Correspondent
