ISLAMABAD, Sept 19: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Lahore and Sialkot police to produce abducted persons in separate cases before the apex court or face punishment.

The bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Naseerul Mulk and Justice Jamshaid Ali heard the cases.

In the first case, Additional Advocate General Punjab Khadim Hussain Qaiser appeared before the court and said a woman, Fatima Bibi, had pleaded that her husband, Mohammad Ibrahim, was abducted by MPA Javed Latif on July 27, 2005.

SP Investigation Munir Ahmed apprised the court that subsequent investigation had established the accused as innocent and that the abducted man was alive and hiding somewhere with his relatives. Last time, he was traced in Ghaziabad, Lahore, he added.

The chief justice after hearing the police version remarked that “Would your notices surface the responsible, where is your professional skill?”

“What you have done uptill now? asking for time and frittering it away, your are appearing before the Supreme Court and should come with very very remarkable achievement,” Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry said, snubbing the officials.

The bench directed the officers concerned to produce the missing man on October 22.

In another case, the additional advocate general said a man, Mohammad Anwar, had lodged an appeal about his son, Awais alias Nomi, who went missing while going to Jamia Hanifia, Sialkot, on August 7, 2005.

The investigation officers apprised the apex court that the complainant accused Qari Faqir, caretaker of the seminary, along with clerk Ghaffar of abduction.

Later, he also accused five of his classmates, however, all of them were proven innocent, the police officials added.

The chief justice remarked that “You are again spoiling the case by working on the dictates of the complainant, as he has noting to do with the investigation process.”

The bench directed the concerned officers to produce the missing boy immediately. The case hearing was adjourned till date in office.—APP
