GUJRANWALA, Sept 16: Traders have protested delays in reconstruction of Circular Road after laying sewer by a Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) contractor.
At a meeting held here on Sunday, traders’ representatives Sajid Butt, Shahid Tanvir, Muhammad Naeem Shah and Navid Akram demanded immediate reconstruction of the road and restoration of gas, phone and water supplies to residents.
They claimed that the utility supplies got disconnected when the contractor carried out excavation to lay sewer pipeline.
The traders said the contractor also left several manholes open and they should immediately be plugged because they were posing threat to pedestrians and motorists.
They alleged that Wasa had failed to revamp the sanitation system and they had to hire private sanitary workers to drain sewerage or rainwater from their areas.
When contacted, Wasa spokesman said the reconstruction work would start after the completion of revamping of sewerage pipelines.
