SIALKOT, Sept 15: Three dacoits kidnapped a Lahore-based trader and his employee here on Saturday near Kaanwan Lit village, Daska tehsil.
Reports said the accused stopped the car of trader Rizwan Bashir of Rehmanpura, Lahore and looted mobile phones, Rs15,000 and other valuables. The accused beat them up on offering resistance. Later, they kidnapped the trader and his employee and demanded Rs0.5 million as ransom for their release.
Daska Saddar police have registered a case.
Meanwhile, the city Daska police could not recover a kidnapped youth, Chaudhry Asif, the cousin of ruling party MPA Chaudhry Mumtaz Ali, despite a lapse of one week.
ROBBERIES: A gang of five dacoits looted gold ornaments, cash and other valuables at gunpoint from dozens of male and female passersby on Friday night near a poultry farm on Head Marala-Kala Khateera Road and injured some women on offering resistance.
Reports said the robbers tied passersby with ropes, locked them with hens in the farm and made off with valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees. Police are investigating.
In another incident, two dacoits made off with a cash of Rs150,000 and jewellery worth Rs200,000 from one Akram Almas here on Saturday on Khadim Ali Road. Some thieves lifted Zafar Ali Kazmi’s motorcycle (STQ-193) from the same area. Police have registered the cases, with no arrest or recovery.
Five dacoits looted the house of a landlord here on Friday night in Tootiyaanwala locality of Daska.
The accused stormed into the house of Haji Muhammad Akram, held family members hostage at gunpoint and
took away cash, jewellery
and valuables worth Rs0.5 million.
Daska City police are investigating.
Demo: Scores of people, including women, staged a protest demonstration on Saturday against gas loadshedding in many city areas during Sehr and Iftar.
The protesters chanted slogans against the local chapter of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited for suspending supply for several hours daily.
They urged the officials concerned to take serious notice of the situation.
LAWYERS: Lawyers, led by Daska bar secretary-general Rana Khalid Abbas, staged a protest demonstration here on Saturday in Daska against what they said police’s misbehaviour with their two senior colleagues — Rana Javaid Manj and Siddique Gujar.
The protesters burnt tyres and blocked traffic on city’s congested Kutchery Road. They were holding banners and placards, chanting slogans against police.
The lawyers also boycotted courts and demanded an impartial probe into alleged police high-handedness.
