LAHORE, Sept 14: The Punjab government has launched computerised census of all its employees from Faisalabad district to place their service record and personal information on a central database available in the Civil Secretariat, official sources told Dawn on Friday.

Under the pilot project, personal and official details of around 47,000 government employees from BS-1 to BS-22 in Faisalabad district would be enlisted and the process would complete by the end of this year, they said.

According to them, the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) was conducting the census and the employees’ database would be readily accessible to authorities at the Civil Secretariat.

They said the data of all federal government employees serving in Punjab, including regular and contract-based, and pensioners would also be collected and fed to the central database. Presently, there are around 800,000 government employees of all categories serving in the province.

The officials said the information would be collected from employees regarding their date of birth, educational qualification, date of appointment, transfers, promotions or demotions, punishments or warnings on corruption or dereliction of duty charges and record of their personal assets at the time of joining the service and at present.

Sources said the census would help detect ghost employees and those occupying lucrative posts despite having bad service record. Those using political or other influence for transfers and postings would also be traced out, they added.

The officials said the computerisation of pensioners record would help ascertain their true legal heirs and deliver them pension funds smoothly.
