BAGHDAD, Sept 13: Top Sunni sheikh Abdul Sattar Abu Reesha, who spearheaded a fight against Al Qaeda, was killed by a bomb on Thursday, just 10 days after US President George Bush shook his hand when he visited Iraq.Abu Reesha was killed near his home outside Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province and the region touted by the US military as a success in its fight against the Iraq wing of Osama bin Laden’s jihadist group.
He was killed exactly a year after he formed the Anbar Awakening Conference, a group of 42 tribes, on Sept 14 last year to fight the Al Qaeda militants in Iraq.—AFP
