KARACHI : Section 144 imposed for one day

KARACHI, Sept 10: The Sindh home department on Monday imposed Section 144 of the CrPC on eight major thoroughfares in the city in an attempt to avert traffic congestion that may be caused by rallies and processions on Tuesday, a senior official said.

“We have imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in the city in the light of the Supreme Court’s orders for improvement in the traffic situation in Karachi,” Ghulam Mohammad Mohtaram, provincial home secretary, told Dawn.

The thoroughfares on which the processions and rallies would be banned included Sharea Faisal, M.A. Jinnah Road, University Road, Shahrah-i-Pakistan, said the secretary.

“We’ll watch the outcome of this measure and will extend it further if it helps improve the situation,” he said.
