HYDERABAD: Scholar’s book launched

HYDERABAD, Sept 5: Institute of Sindhology, University of Sindh, on Wednesday organised a function to pay tribute to renowned scholar Dr N.A.Baloch at the launching of a book published by the institute named “World of Work: Predicament of a Scholar” comprising letters written by Dr Baloch to various scholars in Pakistan and abroad and their replies during the last 60 years.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr N.A.Baloch said that he has served the society in his own humble way in various fields. He said that he was grateful to scholars and people of the country for respect and love given to him in return for his services.

He expressed his gratitude to the Institute of Sindhology and vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, who allowed and approved the publication of book containing 700 pages.

Dr Baloch said that he would always be grateful to society for acknowledging his services.

Dr Baloch said that the tribute from the youth to him would be to start writing daily diary and added that after some years that would become a literary work.

Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui said that Dr Baloch’s contribution to society in different fields demonstrates his greatness. He said that Dr Baloch is a living legend and a historian who is continuously working for the development of the community.

He said that during meetings of the academic council, reports presented by Dr Baloch about progress of Allama I.I.Kazi chair encouraged the scholars to work like him in preparing reports. He said that Dr Baloch is a producer, promoter and preserver of knowledge.

He said that through his work on culture and folklore Dr Baloch has rendered unparalleled services to Sindhi society. He announced that the university’s Institute of Sindhology would be publishing another book of Dr Baloch on Persian poets.

Gul Mohammad Umrani said that through the letters published in the book one could understand the vision and times of the bygone days.

Dr Parveen Talpur said that Dr Baloch is a great scholar of history, culture, education, folklore, archaeology and music. She said that no social science would be complete without the original work of Dr Baloch. Dr Parveen Talpur also appreciated efforts of professor Umer Chand, who compiled the book.
