Police claim arresting two robbers

FAISALABAD, Sept 4: Police claimed to have arrested two of the three bandits who had injured a peon of the Pakistan Post in Samundri on resistance and looted Rs700,000 in cash on Tuesday.

DIG (operations) Muhammad Aslam Tareen told reporters that the police also recovered the plundered money.

He said on being informed the police chased the culprits who entered sugarcane fields. Two culprits, later identified as Shabbir of Tarkhani and Zaman of Barnala, surrendered when police besieged the fields. Their third accomplice, Shehzad, managed to escape from the scene.

Reports said that cashier Muhammad Safdar and peons Ghulam Mustafa and Muhammad Iqbal were returning after drawing cash from NBP’s main branch when armed men intercepted them and tried to snatch a bag containing cash. On offering resistance, culprits injured Mustafa with a gunshot fire, snatched cash from them and escaped.
