KARACHI, Sept. 4: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday gave the city district government another two weeks to fix an agreed price of milk.

A division bench comprising Justices Azizullah M. Memon and Ali Sain Dino Metlo passed the third interim order for an agreed price on a petition moved by milk sellers’ associations. The city district government Karachi (CDGK) had held a meeting of all stakeholders in response to earlier orders and agreed to raise the retail price from Rs28 to Rs30 per litre but the new price was questioned by the petitioners as having been fixed without an agreement. The court fixed an interim retail price of Rs32 per litre and the wholesale price at Rs30 per litre. Tuesday’s order continued the court-fixed price till a new consensus price was fixed within two weeks.

The bench asked the CDGK to convene another meeting of all stakeholders and work out the cost of production to fix new wholesale and retail prices.

Webb Ground hearing put off

The hearing of a petition against the conversion of the Lines Area playing field named Webb Ground was, meanwhile, adjourned by the bench to Wednesday for arguments by the respondents’ counsel, Advocate Mushtaq Memon. Ms Amber Alibhai of the non-governmental organisation Shehri, which has joined the proceedings as intervener, submitted documents to show that that the ground has served as a playing field for over a hundred years. She said the Military Estate Office should also be made a respondent in the petition and issued a notice.
