QUETTA, Sept 1: The members of the Balochistan Zamindar Action Committee staged a demonstration against electricity loadshedding in rural areas of the province. They said that daily loadshedding of about 18 hours had badly affected standing crops.

The protesters assembled outside the Quetta Press Club on Saturday and chanted slogans against the Qesco management. They threatened to hold rallies in all districts if demands were not met.

Addressing the protesters, BZAC president Agha Taj Mohammad, growers’ representatives Malik Fazalur Rehman Bazai, Malik Naseer Shahwani, Sattar Shah and Mir Noor Ahmed said cultivators were facing serious problems due to loadshedding and low-voltage supply of electricity. They said a huge quantity of potato seeds was destroyed due to loadshedding.

They claimed that Balochistan electricity requirement was 950MW but the province was supplied 500MW.
