GUJRANWALA, Aug 29: The Auto-rickshaw Union on Wednesday protested against impounding of three-wheelers over minor traffic violations and slapping of heavy fines by the Road Transport Authority (RTA) officials.
Speaking at a meeting held here, the union president Maulvi Khalid Jutt, and leaders Ustad Saleem, Pervez Butt and Mehr Muhammad Saleem said there were over 10,000 rickshaws in the city feeding as many families of owners and drivers.
They alleged that RTA secretary and motor vehicle examiner concerned were impounding their vehicles to benefit the owners of franchised buses.
Later, a union delegation, accompanied by MNA Imranullah Chaudhry, met with the District Coordination Officer, Athar Sayal, and demanded the vehicles should not be impounded over minor mistakes, while the maximum fine amount should be Rs200 instead of Rs1,000 to Rs1,500, being charged presently.
The DCO, accepting the demands, ordered RTA secretary to recover Rs200 as fine for violation of traffic laws.
