MULTAN, Aug 28: District Nazim Mian Faisal Mukhtar has emphasised expediting Wasa’s arrears recovery process and warned delinquent officials that he would recommend to the provincial government to take appropriate action against them.

Addressing a meeting to review Wasa’s performance here on Tuesday, the district nazim said the government was spending billions of rupees to facilitate the masses but it was unfortunate that they were reluctant to pay water supply bills. He directed Wasa authorities to disconnect all illegal water supply connections immediately and warned all consumers to pay their bills on time otherwise their water supply would be disconnected without warning.

Mr Mukhtar said Wasa was the largest institution providing maximum facilities to the people but was facing many difficulties due to slow-paced recovery of its dues.

He said a large number of people would be facilitated with the construction of an overhead water reservoir in Lohari Gate and this would also enhance water supply pressure, especially in the walled city.

The district nazim said that a valve would be installed at water supply pipeline of every street and if the people of that street would not pay their bills, the facility would be disconnected. He said Wasa would also launch an awareness campaign in this connection.

He said that meters should be installed at water supply connections and union council nazims would be responsible to help install meters and collect meter fees.

He directed removing encroachments from around Gol Bagh. He admonished Wasa officials for not completing the work on Keeri Jamandan sewerage line and directed its urgent completion.

Mr Mukhtar directed that encroachments from Mumtazabad underpass road be removed immediately. He also ordered carpeting of the road after widening it to 40 feet as traffic rush was increasing on it every passing day.

He also directed draining sewer water from Pervaiz Elahi Park within three days so that construction of the park’s caved in wall could start.

The district nazim was told that sewer project had been completed in Chah Ghulam Wala while work in Timber Market would start within three days. Similarly, sewers in Mehboob Colony, Chah Haji Wala, Double Phattak and Shujabad Road would start working within a week
