KARACHI, Aug 27: Holders Army, Wapda (pool A) and PAF (pool B) have ensured their berths in last four of the National Inter-departmental basketball championship at the Arambagh floodlit court on Monday.
All the three teams have maintained a clean slate winning three of the four leagues matches apiece. The semi-finals line-up will be completed when the winner of Habib Bank – Navy join the fray on Tuesday.
Four matches are on card for the last day of the league on Tuesday. The semi-finals are to be played on Wednesday while the curtain falls on the event the next day.
Giving awesome performance, Wapda cagers chalked up successive victories on Tuesday. First they humbled POF Wah 57-49 and later got the better of KESC 62-41.
Habib Bank registered their second win when they whipped Rangers 67-43 in a group B match. Adnan and Falak Farid caught the eye with 23 and 19 to their credit. Naimatullah top scored for the losers with 24.
In the third match of the day, PAF continued their winning run inflicting 60-58 defeat on Navy in a neck-and-neck game. The airmen led 33-26 at the half time.
Nadeem (16), Tanveer (15) were the principal scorers for winners while Shehryar and Mustafa contributed 14 and 12 for losers.
After losing two games to Army and Wapda, Railways recovered to gain their first win beating POF Wah 53-37. Naimatullah shone as Rangers routed Police 67-52 after leading 25-24 at lemon break.
Naimatullah was the pick of the match scoring 44 points, highest in the competition, so far.
