RAWALPINDI, March 13: The Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi Bench on Wednesday summoned the PTV managing-director and a playwright in person on March 19 to explain the alleged contemptuous dialogue in a drama “Jaza Aur Saza”.
Advocate Mumtaz Ali has filed a petition in the LHC, Rawalpindi Bench contending that the drama Saza Aur Jaza, written by Asghar Nadeem Syed contained some contemptuous remarks about the high court.
The petitioner stated that the drama, which revolved around the story of a contractor who, in collusion with food department was minting money, contained a dialogue in which actor Firdous Jamal said: “I fail to understand why [the] high court white-listed him (contractor) from the black-lists.”
The petitioner stated that the writer had cast aspersions on the high court and attempted to ridicule the institution for which public had great respect. He prayed the court to take appropriate action to vindicate the honour of high court.
Justice Ali Nawaz Chohan ordered the PTV managing-director, Yusuf Baig Mirza, and the playwright to appear before him on Tuesday. The petitioner had impleaded nine respondents but the court issued notices to the MD and the playwright.
Obscene film case: Meanwhile the senior civil judge Mohammad Saleem Uppal on Wednesday adjourned the PTV obscene films case hearing till March 27, as the prosecution did not present the challan before the court.
The court had time and again directed the prosecution to complete the challan but the prosecution was delaying it due to unknown reasons.
