SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 25: Around 114 files containing urban and rural land records have gone missing from the Revenue Department’s record room here.
This was indicated after a citizen, Munawar Khaliq, resident of Old Anarkali, Lahore, moved the Supreme Court of Pakistan which directed the Board of Revenue (BoR) chairman to submit a report by August 31.
The BoR chairman sough a report from the Sheikhupura district officer (revenue) on which he and his subordinates started tracing the files but to no avail.
Sources said some influential people in connivance with officials concerned had misplaced the files to conceal their misdeeds. They said several government officials, politicians and influential people had embezzled government lands worth millions of rupees and later destroyed the record to save their skin.
The revenue officials are, however, worried about their fate as the matter is going to be taken up by the apex court on August 31 and a strict action is likely against the delinquent officials.
