PESHAWAR, Aug 18: Gulbahar Union Council Nazim Malik Naseer Hussain has urged the provincial police officer to take action against ASP Waqar Ahmed for allegedly misbehaving with him and Karimpura Union Council Nazim Abdul Wahid Qadri.
Speaking at a news conference at the press club along with some councillors and nazims on Saturday, Mr Hussain claimed that the Gulbahar ASP had called him to the police station on Aug 13 to discuss a controversial matter with him. At the meeting the police officer misbehaved with him and Mr Qadri.
About water shortage, the nazim said residents of Gulbahar had been facing water scarcity for several years. This year, he said, the federal government had released some funds for construction of a tube-well in the area for which he had selected the Children’s Park in Gulbahar-II.
After the issuance of the tender, he said, contractor Gul Waris and officials of the public health engineering department visited the site. Gul Waris started work on the project the same day, but later refused to continue the work and tried to take away his machinery. However, he said, the residents did not allow him to remove the machinery.
He said the provincial PML-Q president and federal minister Amir Muqam was to inaugurate the project. This provoked the provincial government which asked the contractor to stop the work, he claimed.
He said the residents of Gulbahar were being made scapegoat in the tussle between the federal and provincial governments. He accused the ASP of humiliating the residents of Gulbahar and their nazim by carrying out a victimisation campaign against them.
He said if the ASP was not removed immediately, the residents would set up a hunger strike camp outside the Gulbahar Union Council office in support of their demands.
