LAKKI MARWAT, Aug 17: Pakistan People’s Party will not accept Gen Pervez Musharraf as president with or without uniform, according to the party’s NWFP chief Rahimdad Khan.

“Our party is struggling for restoration of genuine democracy. It will not strike a deal with a military dictator,” he said while addressing a public meeting in the Begukhel village here on Thursday evening.

The meeting was organised to welcome Khanzada Ahmad Jan Khan, a social worker, into the PPP fold. Other party leaders —including Farid Toofan, Ihsanullah Khan and Mashal Khan Azad — also addressed the meeting.

Rahimdad Khan said real democracy could not be restored in the presence of Gen Musharraf, and the PPP would not accept him.

“Restoration of real democracy will pave the way for bringing an end to terrorism and extremism. It will also enable the public representatives to steer the country out of the current crises,” he said.

Criticising Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, he said the religious parties had come to power in the name of Islam but they had never tried to enforce an Islamic system with sincerity.

“Instead of making efforts to enforce the Sharia, the religious group supported Gen Pervez Musharraf and his so-called Legal Framework Order (LFO), allowing him to prolong his unconstitutional rule.”

He called upon party workers to get ready for the upcoming elections.
