MIRPURKHAS, Aug 9: Dozens of patients and their attendants in the surgical ward of Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas staged a demonstration on Thursday to protest power failure. The protesters, led by Raja Ali Sher, Moula Bux and Kanshi Kolhi, were chanting slogans against the SDO Hesco city sub-division.

They informed journalists that due to the unannounced power breakdowns patients faced great hardships as two patients who needed immediate surgery could not be operated upon.

They demanded of Wapda chairman and Hesco chief executive to take notice of the matter and ensure regular power supply to the hospital.

Civil surgeon of the hospital, Dr Roshan Ali Bhatti said that transformer of hospital was burnt but despite repeated complaints to Hesco and XEN it was not replaced nor repaired.

He said emergency operations in civil hospital were adversely affected due to the power breakdowns, while generator of the hospital could not function round the clock.

He said he had sent several letters to the Hesco chief about the situation and other difficulties but in vain.

Dr Roshan said he would move Sindh High Court in this regard. He demanded of the Wapda chairman to intervene immediately and ensure power supply to hospital.
