LAHORE, Aug 8: Around 150 workers of Shabab-i-Milli threw traffic out of gear for some 45 minutes at Thokar Niaz Baig Chowk in protest against the misbehaviour and non-cooperation of the Sattokatla investigation in charge on Wednesday.
Police sources said the protest was followed by harsh arguments between investigation officer (IO) Azmat Hayat and Mukhtar Ahmed, father of 13-year-old girl Fauzia, who had been abducted by two people on July 31.
The complainant had asked the IO to recover his daughter and arrest the accused, but the official misbehaved with him and some members of the Shabab-i-Milli at the police station.
The police, however, said the complainant behaved badly with the IO.
At around 5pm on Wednesday, around 150 activists, led by son of Jamaat-i-Islami central leader Liaquat Baloch, Ahmed Suleman Baloch, gathered at Thokar Niaz Baig Chowk and chanted slogans against the IO.
They alleged the official neither arrested accused Arshad and Hafiz Ameer nor recovered the girl, and was rather forcing the complainant to withdraw the case.
They demanded strict action against the official and his removal from service.
Traffic coming from Multan Road, Raiwind Road, Canal Road choked and a long queue of vehicles was witnessed.
The protesters dispersed peacefully when Sattokatla ASP Ahmed Nawaz Cheema and other officials reached the spot and assured them that police would redress their grievances.
