SWABI, July 7: The Pakistan-US Joint Research Project launched in 2006 has helped institutes and universities in the country boost the engineering education and create an environment of competitiveness in the industry through public-private partnership.

This was stated by Dr Rizwanuddin of the University of Illinois, USA, while speaking at day-long seminar on “Nodal methods for fluid and solid mechanics” held under the Pakistan-US science and technology programme jointly offered by the University of Illinois Chicago and the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology here on Tuesday.

He said the three-year project would help universities and institutes establish a state-of-the-art computation facility to carry out engineering calculations for the local industry.

The project is jointly funded by the Higher Education Commission of the ministry of science and technology and the USAID.

Dr Rizwan said the nodal methods had been developed for heat transfer, neutron diffusion and transport, fluid mechanics, etc.

He highlighted the working of nodal methods, their recent applications and utilisation in the industrial development and growth.

He said the entrepreneurs could benefit from the computational mechanics programme to meet the challenges of the 21st century in the industrial sector.
