Doctors call off strike

MIANWALI, Aug 5: Doctors called off their strike here on Sunday evening. According to a press release issued by the Mianwali chapter of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), the district administration has assured the doctors community that their grievances will be redressed provided they call off the strike. It said the doctors would observe one-hour token strike daily from 1pm to 2pm till the withdrawal of case against their colleagues.

Police had registered a case against medical superintendent (MS) Dr Muhammad Farooq Khan and medical officer Zafar Iqbal Khan after the death of a trader at DHQ hospital.

PMA secretary-general Dr Qiasar Obaid told this correspondent that doctors called off the strike in view of the difficulties being faced by the people.

On Friday (Aug 3), doctors had announced that they would conduct free checkup at their clinics on Sunday, but were found receiving fee.
