KARACHI: Two killed in police encounter

KARACHI, July 29: Two suspected gangsters were killed and a police constable was wounded in what police claimed to be an encounter with bandits in the Malir area early Sunday morning.

Police said that on receiving a tip-off that Sohail Dada, an alleged accomplice of Rehman Dakait, was present with his associates in a Malir locality, a police party reached their.

Seeing the police movement, the suspects tried to flee opening fire at the police party and wounding police constable Tariq.

Police claimed that in their retaliatory fire two of the bandits were killed while Sohail Dada and some others escaped under the cover of intense firing.

Police claimed having found two motorcycles and three pistols in the possession of the dead.

One of the dead was identified as Ghulam Farid but the other could not be identified, police added.

Watchman killed

A young watchman was killed by some unknown persons in Gulistan-i-Jauhar early Sunday morning.

Police said Habibullah, 35, worked as a watchman at a parking area for rickshaws and taxis in Pehlwan Goth, Block 9, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, where unknown persons shot him before fleeing.

The wounded man was taken to the Jinnah Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police suspected personal enmity as a possible motive for the killing as the victim hailed from the northern areas.
