India confirms bird flu

NEW DELHI, July 26: India confirmed on Thursday that the latest outbreak of bird flu in poultry in the remote northeast was the H5N1 strain, the first case reported in a year. Government workers plan to slaughter about 150,000 poultry within a 5-km radius around the affected farm in Manipur state, which lies on the border with Myanmar.
