KARACHI, July 19: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has started work of laying sewerage lines costing Rs31million in Shah Faisal Town

Town Nazim Mohammad Imran said this at a meeting held here on Thursday.

He said the people of Old Iqbalabad, Rehmanabad, Al-Hayder Society, Tandoor Colony, Azeemabad, Hayderi Goth and other areas would benefit from the project.

Naib Town Nazim Akbar Ali, TMO Syed Barkaat Ahmed Rizvi, Chief Engineer KWSB Imran Asif, Superintending Engineer KWSB Asadullah Khan, DTO Water Zafar Qadri, and UC nazims were also present.

Ghost employees

Jamshed Town Nazim Javed Ahmed has directed the town administration to take action against ghost employees.

He was chairing a meeting to review the performance of staff here on Thursday. TMO Jamshed Town Fakhr-i-Alam Rizvi, Abid Ali and all DTOs and ATOs were also present.

The nazim instructed the KWSB to point out faults in the sewerage and water lines and prepare a list of development work to be carried out in the future. He said all open manholes in the town should be covered.

The town nazim urged the staff to be punctual, adding that action would be taken against habitual latecomers.

French CG visits Lyari

The French Consul-General in Karachi, Pierre Seillan, on Thursday visited Lyari Town and met Town Nazim Malik Mohammed Fayyaz, exchanging views on development activities and other issues.

The town nazim briefed the French diplomat about development schemes and the supply of clean drinking water, which has reached the completion phase with the cooperation of the city government.

He informed Mr Seillan about the youth of Lyari who carved out a name in football and boxing at the national and international levels and said that French footballers Thierry Henry and Zinedine Zidane are the extremely popular in Lyari.

The consul-general was informed about women’s handicraft centres, health centres and educational institutions in the town.

The nazim said the town is facing problems in the implementation of development schemes of health and education and the provision of basic facilities because of financial constraints.

Malik Fayyaz presented clothes with traditional Balochi embroidery and an ajrak to the consul general and accompanying Consul Jean-Pierre Margot as a memento of their visit.

Cleanliness work

Korangi Town Nazim Mohammad Arif Khan, Naib Nazim Mohammad Asghar Qureshi and TMO Dr Mukhtar Palijo on Thursday visited UC-1 Bilal Colony and inspected cleanliness work there.

The nazim directed the authorities concerned to resolve the sewerage problems of Bilal Colony. He said construction of a road from Murtaza Chowk to Burhani Mosque should begin immediately.

Green belts

Landhi Town Nazim Syed Asif Hasnain on Thursday inspected the ongoing cleanliness campaign.

The nazim asked residents not to dump garbage at green belts, adding that violators would be issued notices.—PPI/APP
