FAISALABAD, July 10: Work on the first multi-storey block of the Faisalabad Garment City (FGC) has begun.
FGC Secretary Muhammad Iqbal said on Tuesday the building would be completed in one year with an estimated cost of Rs172.2 million. He said the government was focussing on the promotion of value addition to the textile sector to earn foreign exchange that is why garment cities were being set up in all major textile cities of the country. He said these cities would help small and medium garment manufacturers make quality garments in line with international trends and standards.
Iqbal said these cities would save time and money private manufacturers used to spend in the past on making buildings for factories. He said the government would construct the building and rent it out to garment manufacturers. He said the FGC was being set up on 38.9 acres near industrial belt of Khurrianwala. — app
