ISLAMABAD, July 6: A National Assembly sub-committee on Friday sought details of foreign visits by the principal of Pakistan School of Fashion Design, Lahore, and the third consecutive extension in her tenure which is believed to have been granted in violation of the rules.
Majority of the members of the sub-committee of National Assembly standing committee on commerce headed by MNA Kashmala Tariq were of the opinion that these costly official trips had not achieved any targets.
They directed the authorities concerned to provide details of the visits including expenses incurred on them and also to explain the purpose and results achieved from the visits.
The committee was constituted after receiving complaints from the faculty members, students and administration of the school on the misuse of authority by the principal.
The committee also showed concerns over the number of students who dropped out of their courses in the midway despite provision of 50 percent government subsidies amounting to Rs1.5 million per student.
The committee was informed that Hina Tayyaba has been working as principal of the school since 1999. The term of the post is three years, it was stated.
Moreover, Ms Tayyaba has been appointed as adviser, consultant and member on various boards and committees under the ministry of commerce and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.
