Brothers kill sister to grab farmland

SAHIWAL, July 5: Two women were killed by their brothers in separate incidents. In the first incident, Bahawal Sher and Shahmand murdered their sister Ghulam Fatima in Chak Murad Kay Kathia to grab her 72 kanals agricultural land about 20 days ago.

Harappa police said they attacked their sister with spades and killed her on June 14. They threw her body in a well from where they removed it and declared the death as accidental and buried her.

However, her cousin Musa Kathia suspected that she was murdered. He filed a petition in the court of district and session’s judge requesting exhumation of the body and postmortem examination.

The body was exhumed on the court orders and autopsy report confirmed that she was murdered.

Police registered a case on Thursday and arrested both the accused.

In the other incident, Liaquat and Gulzar allegedly clubbed their unmarried 45-year-old sister Sughran to death on suspicion of loose morals in Arazi Yaqoob village.

They suspected that Sughran had developed illicit relations with a youth, Ayub.

They heard a rumour that Sughran had planned to elope with Ayub. They attacked her with clubs and killed her on the spot.

Noorshah police have registered a case without any arrest.

STRIKE: Lawyers observed strike on Thursday and boycotted courts, hoisted black flags on the bar room and held a protest rally to express their solidarity with the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

A procession was taken out from the bar room which was led by DBA president Sheikh Usman, secretary Mian Islamul Haq and Punjab Bar Council member Mian Tahir Shabbir.

Addressing the protest rally, the DBA president and others vowed to continue protest till the restoration of CJP.

ELECTROCUTED: A labourer and his nephew were electrocuted in the Rang Shah village.

Murad Bakhsh and his nephew were working on the tubewell of farmer Nabi Ahmad Khan when they suffered electric shock. They were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
