KARACHI, July 5: The MMA’s parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly, Maulana Umer Sadiq, met City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal at his office on Thursday and exchanged views with him about the problems of Baldia Town.

Maulana Sadiq called for paying special attention to the problems of katchi abadis of the town, particularly Naval Colony. He was appreciative of the construction of a bus terminal in the town.

Mustafa Kamal told him that the city government is working for the solution of problems without any discrimination and development works are being implemented in all the towns on an equal basis.

He pointed out that the city’s 178 union councils have been provided Rs9.6 million each during the last financial year while a separate water pipeline costing Rs680m is being laid for Baldia Town where water, at present, is being supplied for eight hours only. The city nazim said in the past no main trunk was laid, as a result of which there had been a water shortage in Baldia, Orangi, Site and other towns. In order to overcome this shortage, he said, the city government provided Rs50m to each town and also initiated work on laying 27 trunk lines.

The city nazim assured the visitors that the problems would be solved gradually through phase-wise measures.

Union Nazim of Baldia Town, Maulana Mohammed Ali, international boxer Abdul Khaliq Baloch, social worker Abdul Latif Baloch and others accompanied Maulana Umer Sadiq while DCO Javed Hanif and other officials were also present.

Library staff rewarded

Liaquatabad Town Nazim Osama Qadri on Thursday gave away cash prizes and performance shields to senior and junior staff members of the town’s libraries.

He noted there has been an acute shortage of hard-working and honest people in government departments, which has created a bad impression of these departments among the people.

Osama Qadri said the performance of senior and junior library staff was checked minutely throughout the year and prizes were awarded to those who remained punctual, hard-working and dealt with visitors in a fair manner.—APP/PPI
