SIALKOT, July 1: An accused wanted for killing a Belgian woman has confessed to his crime. Police officials said accused Mirza Iftikhar Mahmood told police he had two Belgian girlfriends in Brussels. Both of them often quarrelled with each other and their rising altercation made him sick. He says he killed one of his girlfriends for abusing him in 1986 and the 21-year-old murder was not an honour killing.

Commenting over his arrest after so long period, the accused said, “The law has very long arms and hands.”

Officials said Mahmood would be handed over to Interpol through the Interior Ministry in the next two days. They said senior Interpol officials had collected relevant information about the accused from the Sialkot police.

The accused is in Sialkot jail on a judicial remand granted by a local court.

After killing his Belgian girlfriend in Brussels in 1986, Mahmood flew to Pakistan to avert his arrest.

On June 29, 2007, Sialkot police arrested him in a house in the Imam Sahib locality.
