Gas supply disrupted

QUETTA, June 28: Gas supply to Quetta and four other districts of Balochistan was disrupted after a main gas pipeline was washed away by flash foods in the Bolan River between Dhadar and Gokart, some 100km from here, on Wednesday night.

“A big portion of the 12-inch-diameter pipeline was washed away by floodwater,” an SSGC official said. Gas supply to Quetta, Kalat, Mastung, Pishin and Ziarat districts was disrupted.

Repairs could not be taken up on Thursday because the pipeline was inaccessible due to the high water level in the river. “The water level in the river is still 10 to 12 feet high,” sources said.

“Restoring of gas supply is not possible today and I have no idea if it can be done tomorrow because the river is still in high flood,” a senior official of the SSGC said, adding that the company staff would begin repairs as soon as the area became accessible.
