KARACHI, June 28: Gulshan-i-Iqbal, New Karachi, Malir, Bin Qasim and Lyari towns passed surplus budgets for fiscal 2007-08 in their respective council meetings on Thursday.

The total outlay of Gulshan Town’s budget is Rs1.221 billion; Malir Town is Rs401.44 million; New Karachi is Rs403.266 million; Bin Qasim Town’s budget is Rs539.761 million and the outlay of Lyari Town’s budget is Rs473.8 million.

Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Nazim Wasey Jalil presented the budget in the meeting of the town council, which was presided over by Naib Town Nazim Shoaib Akhtar.

According to the budget document, the total expenditures of the town are Rs1,221.5m against the total receipts of Rs1,221.8m, showing a Rs0.3 million surplus.

A sum of Rs911.3m has been allocated for various development projects in the town.

New Karachi

The town council approved the surplus budget showing Rs403.266 million as estimated expenditures against the total receipts of Rs403.286m.

A hefty amount of Rs203.26m has been allocated for development projects. The town will get a grant of Rs352m in the head of Octroi Zila Tax, while it will generate revenue of Rs20m in the head of property tax.

The town will spend a sum of Rs103m on the construction of roads and nullahs, Rs10m on replacing electricity wires and Rs6m on the construction of parks. Besides, the town would construct a stadium for which Rs10m was allocated in the budget.

Malir

With a total outlay of Rs401.44 million, the Malir town council unanimously passed its budget presented by Town Nazim Ansar Ahmed Shaikh. The total expenditures mentioned in the budget are Rs399.11m and the surplus amount is Rs2.3m.

A sum of Rs155m has been allocated for development projects while Rs202.11m is allocated in the head of non-development expenditures, including Rs134.57m as salaries for staff.

Briefing newsmen, the town nazim said that work to construct a morgue in the town would be completed in the next fiscal.

Bin Qasim

A surplus budget of Bin Qasim Town was approved in the council meeting presided over by Town Naib Nazim Yousuf Shah. The budget, with a total outlay of Rs539.761million, was presented by Town Nazim Jan Alam Jamote.

According to the budget document, the total expenditure of the town in fiscal 2007-08 has been estimated at Rs517.885m against the receipts of Rs539.761m, making it a Rs21.876m surplus.

An amount of Rs356.287m has been allocated for various development projects. Rs55.128m has been earmarked for Citizen Community Boards (CCBs). The town allocated an amount of Rs7.786m as part of 15 per cent raise in the salaries of its employees.

Lyari

A surplus budget of Rs473.8 million for the fiscal year 2007-8 was presented for Lyari Town on Thursday by Town Nazim Malik Mohammad Fayyaz.

In the budget, Rs103m has been allocated for development projects in the town while Rs200m has been earmarked for expenditures and salaries of the officials and staff, with Rs32.3m going to the repair and maintenance of machinery.
