BAHAWALPUR, June 25: Scores of people suffered from gastroenteritis owing to polluted drinking water at Chak no.48/DB near Yazman. Work on a sewerage scheme at the village was in progress for the last one month. It damaged the main water supply line at several points.

After the recent downpour, rainwater and sewage entered the water pipes, causing gastroenteritis.

The affected people were rushed to private hospitals.

District Officer (Health) Dr Irshad said teams had been sent to the locality after receipt of information.

He claimed that the situation was not alarming.
