BAHAWALPUR, June 22: Eleven of the 13 lawyers going to Multan on foot to welcome the chief justice of Pakistan abandoned their journey on Friday.

However, the remaining two — Malik Faiz Bakhsh and Ms Kausar Bhatti — claimed to have walked over 50km and were still walking towards Basti Maluk on Friday afternoon.

Talking to Dawn by a cell phone, Ms Bhatti and Bakhsh vowed to complete their on-foot journey to Multan. They said although their colleagues abandoned their journey near Lodhran due to hot weather, they would not stop midway.

They said they would reach Multan by Saturday evening after an overnight stay at Larr, about 70km from Bahawalpur.

Ms Bhatti said five lawyers from Lodhran begun on-foot journey to Multan on Friday. They are Rana Liaquat, Chaudhry Dilshad, Rao Salim Ghani, Chaudhry Abdul Khaliq and Chaudhry Muhammed Zafar.
